[C] – CONTROL – The Money and Soul of Possibility

The idea of the story was good, but the implementation was bad.

The overarching story is maybe money is that which gives you power to do things and influence things. And they use the real world as a template to show you how money can influence the world. The story uses several techniques and standard practices from the real world that several nations use and people use to show you how money really flows, how devaluations impact the economy and how too much money in in one or two people’s hands can have a Possibly really negative impact on the world when handled poorly.

But all of that is about the idea of the story. The implementation itself was so much worse.

The story did a poor job of explaining what’s happening, why certain people are leveling up, if they are leveling up The pacing was way off. In some situations it moved too quickly, some moved too slowly. Most things move too quickly.

Something the storytellers did poorly was explaining what was happening like metaflation hyperinflation, deflation. They assumed you would either already know or figure out what was happening, which is not a bad way to do things but they did far too little hand holding for anyone to make sense of this. The anime watching audience is not primarily economist so it’s maybe a bad idea to create a series targeted at economists. I’m not saying that that is what they did, but it did seem as if that is what they did. Even assuming you are an economist, you still would have a hard time understanding the series because there are just so many things that they did a very poor job of explaining. It felt extremely rushed. Even the parts that don’t concern any economics. They just did a bad job of explaining things.

It felt as if the manga would have probably been much longer and much better explained, and the animators did a poor job and just crammed everything into one season. While doing a horrible job of explaining anything including the power structure. And now we have this.

They also had some romance in here which was just really weird. And also in this extremely rushed series, why would you even have that?
